plan: Halloween scene - its what we don't see in horror films, so seeing an alien is the scariest part for the characters who don't know - sun is setting, its Halloween which makes it easier, Halloween is celebrated a lot in America - see it from his point of view as he walks alive scene - close up shots of his expressions - flower comes alive, his reaction changes - music changes - he acts like a baby to get what he wants - he is surrounded by people with white costumes on which suggests a hospital atmosphere. - camera is at Elliots height which makes the audience involved drunk scene/ frogs - - Elliot feels what et does - what et sees and is thinking of Elliot does - link to singin in the rain era - Elliot freeing the frogs is a metaphor for freeing et goodbye scene - long shots - looking up to them camera angle - mainly focusses on the main two E.T frogs scene: Mise en scene                 Costume: The Cost...

(POST 34) Macro elements of the film form

Mother! Representation -  All the character's in the film, aren't named which I think shows how no one has an identity. all of the characters don't show any personalities through this film, as the main focus is on the visitors, and how they are controlling them. The main character 'mother!' who is played by the actress 'Jennifer Lawrence' shows a lot of emotions and face expressions throughout the film, which makes the audience feel her emotions too. Her makeup on set is quite natural, if wearing any at all. Her costume, is also very plain and basic. The character 'him' who is played by the actor 'Javier Bardem'  has a very unusual personality, that I find hard to work out. Throughout the film, it came across to me that he cares more about his reputation/career  than his girlfriend. Kuleshov Effect What do you understand by The Kuleshov Effect? The Kuleshov Effect is a film editing (montage) effect demonstrated by Soviet filmmaker Lev Kuleshov in the 1910s and 1920s. It is a mental phenomenon by which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots than from a single shot in isolation. The Kuleshov Effect is a well-documented concept in film-making, discovered by Soviet film editor Lev Kuleshov in the 1920s. Kuleshov put a film together, showing the expression of an actor, edited together with a plate of soup, a dead woman, and a woman on a recliner. Audiences praised the subtle acting, showing an almost imperceptible expression of hunger, grief, or lust in turn.
